Board Games: Educational and FunToday many children are getting lost in the world of the T.V and the computer. A common complaint of almost all the parents is that their kids wont get off the so called “idiot box”, both part 1(T.V) and part 2(P.C). Well a cure to these problems is board games. Here is a list of all the reasons why board games are needed and are important even in this technology run age in which we live. Reason 1: it servers as a good pastime (and replaces the TV and computer in doing so) Facts are facts; the television and the computer are very interesting and can hold a child’s focus for hours on end. And they too have a lot to offer as far as educating your child is concerned, but they are not the only source. So if you want your children to get off those screens then you need to find something that they can do in place of sitting in front of these electronic devices. And the best replacement for them is board games. These games are fun, captivating and very educational. Most importantly, the role of a parent is also emphasized through games; as unlike the computer, these games need to be played by two or more people and usually parents prove to be the best guide or teacher. Reason 2: Games help in family togetherness In today’s day and age where one has hardly any time for oneself, where can they find time for their family and kids? Well that’s where we go wrong. If we get too involved with our work then we are nothing more than a money maker to our kids and not a parent. Board games require parents to invest time, even if not much, with their kids, so as to help them understand the game and then provide them with the company they need to play these games. This helps parents understand and get closer to their children, something that is missing in today’s family, something that board games can bring back. Reason 3: A well deserved break! Textbooks and homework are boring. So when the kids return home from school, board games offer them a well deserved break. And not just that, they educate kids in a way that is not cumbersome but fun. Reason 4: A learning experience. There are some games that teach history, some teach phonetic skills or reading, some teach mathematics, while others teach ethics and values. Games are not just a source of entertainment but also a source of education and many things that a child finds difficult to grasp in school can be easily understood by him/her without them actually realizing it. And finally reason 5: Fun! After all, the whole intention behind board games (even educational ones) is for the child to have fun. And rest assured once your child knows how to play a game, a fun filled adventure is all that awaits him/her. And you. |
